Nets, jigs, traps and lines Jala, candat, bubu, pancing
Every fishing spot takes its own gear. Nets come in three sizes, prawn traps work while you are away, and tuna want a mackerel on the hook.
One spot, one tool
| Spot | Needs | Fishing | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fishing spot Raw mackerel Ikan kembung | Old cast net Jala lama | 1 | 14 on Perhentian, 6 in Kuala Besut | Nets come in three sizes. |
| Squid spot Raw squid Sotong | Squid jig Candat | 5 | 4 on Perhentian | |
| Prawn spot Raw prawn Udang galah | Prawn trap Bubu | 8 | 5 in Kuala Besut | Set the trap and come back (Tools III). |
| Tuna spot Raw tuna Ikan tongkol | Hand-line Tali pancing | 12 | 3 in Kuala Besut | Each tuna eats raw mackerel as bait (Tools III). |
The spot's level and the tool's level are the same on purpose, except for nets, which have tiers. The game's words for the actions already match: Net, Jig, Trap, Hand-line.
Cast nets
A cast net (jala) is thrown from the hip and opens in the air. Better nets catch more often, and sometimes bring up two mackerel at once.
| Net | Fishing | Gives | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old cast net Jala lama | 1 | can tear | Mak Long Esah gives you one the first time you talk to her, and replaces it if you ever lose it. |
| Cast net Jala | 6 | +8% chance, 10% two at once, can tear | Knot it yourself at a net rack: 4 rope, Fishing 6. |
| Big cast net Jala besar | 15 | +16% chance, 20% two at once, can tear | Knot it at a net rack: 6 rope and a string of sinkers, Fishing 15. |
Mackerel are the lowest fish, so why better nets? Because in part 3 every tuna needs one as bait. A good net keeps the tuna fisher supplied.
The squid jig
A candat is a shrimp-shaped lure with a crown of hooks, and squid jigging off Terengganu is famous. It works the squid spots along the Perhentian rocks from Fishing 5. Mak Long Esah gives you one when you finish her lesson, so the island's second fish never needs the mainland. Kak Yah sells spares.
Prawn traps
A bubu is a woven bamboo trap with a funnel mouth: prawns go in and can't find the way out.
Planned · Tools I At first it works like the other tools: stand at a prawn spot and work it, with the trap as the tool.
Planned · Tools III Then traps work on their own:
- Click a prawn spot with a trap in your pack or belt. Two ticks later the trap is set, and it leaves your pack.
- After 60 ticks (36 s) the trap is full: its float bobs and the spot shows a ring.
- Click it to haul: one prawn, plus 2 more rolls for an extra one each. The trap is baited and set again for you.
- Right-click to take the trap back up.
Traps keep their time when you sail away or close the game, because they count ticks you have played (a new saved clock), not ticks of the page. A full trap waits for ever.
| Fishing | Traps at once | Chance of each extra prawn | Prawns a haul, on average |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 1 | 25% | 1.50 |
| 10 | 1 | 30% | 1.60 |
| 12 | 2 | 35% | 1.70 |
| 15 | 2 | 43% | 1.85 |
| 18 | 3 | 50% | 2.00 |
| 20 | 3 | 55% | 2.10 |
| 25 | 4 | 68% | 2.35 |
| 30 | 4 | 75% | 2.50 |
Hand-lines and bait
Tuna run off the end of the Kuala Besut jetty from Fishing 12, and they want a hand-line. Planned · Tools III They also want bait: each tuna you land eats one raw mackerel from your pack. Misses cost nothing. No mackerel, no tuna: the game says so before you start.
This is the loop the design is after: the net feeds the line, and the first fish you ever caught stays worth catching.
Torn nets and snapped lines
Planned · Tools III Fishing gear is the only gear that wears, and it wears the way it does in life.
| What | How often | Then | Fix it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old cast net Jala lama | 3% of catches | Becomes Torn old cast net Jala lama koyak: still fishes, one tick slower and 10% less likely | Click a rope in your pack: 3 ticks, 1 rope, 15 Fishing XP. Or Mak Long Esah mends it for nothing. |
| Hand-line Tali pancing | 2% of tuna | Becomes Snapped hand-line Tali pancing putus: no use until fixed | Click a hook in your pack: 1 hook, 10 Fishing XP. |
The net rack
Planned · Tools III A net rack (para jala) stands beside Mak Long Esah on Perhentian and outside the fish market in Kuala Besut. Fishing gear is knotted there with Fishing, not Woodwork, and the Craft tab shows the rack's recipes when you stand at one.
| Makes | From | Fishing | XP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cast net Jala | 4 × rope | 6 | 50 |
| Big cast net Jala besar | 6 × rope + 1 × net sinkers | 15 | 120 |
| Hand-line Tali pancing | 2 × rope + 1 × fish hook | 12 | 60 |
XP an hour
Pure fishing time with Mak Long Esah's lesson, no walking, no full pack. The three net columns are mackerel with each net, counting second catches; squid are with the jig, tuna with the hand-line.

Prawns are left out: in part 3 they are set and hauled, so their rate is however often you come back.
